🌸 Create Something Beautiful
Immerse yourself in colour, creativity, and cultural tradition with Batik Silk Workshop.
Originating from Southeast Asia, batik is a centuries-old decorative art form that combines patience, craftsmanship, and the expressive beauty of dye on fabric. This immersive workshop introduces guests to both the rich heritage and traditional techniques behind this captivating process.
Guests are welcomed into a calm and inspiring creative space, where they are invited to explore a curated selection of design ideas and visual references. Participants may choose from a variety of patterns or develop their own unique design, inspired by traditional batik books filled with motifs and artistic influences.
Creativity begins with sketching. Each guest first draws their chosen design directly onto silk, allowing their composition to take shape before colour is introduced.
With gentle step-by-step guidance, participants are then introduced to the traditional wax resist technique. Using a heated wax pot, melted wax is carefully applied to the silk with a Tjanting — a delicate, pen-like batik tool designed specifically for drawing with wax.
The Tjanting allows guests to pour and guide the warm wax in fine, flowing lines, tracing patterns and protecting selected areas of the design. This wax barrier becomes the foundation of the batik process, creating the beautifully distinctive effects batik is known for.
Once the wax has set, guests begin applying vibrant silk inks and dyes, watching as colour interacts gracefully with the silk. Different techniques allow for soft, fluid blends or more controlled colour placement for those who prefer a structured finish.
The experience is wonderfully mindful, immersive, and expressive, encouraging guests to slow down, relax, and fully engage in the creative rhythm.
At the end of the session, guests take home their silk creation to complete the final setting process. Simple aftercare instructions are provided, including washing and ironing to remove the wax and reveal the finished design.
Each guest leaves with a truly unique, handcrafted silk piece — a wearable work of art infused with creativity, colour, and tradition.
Create with colour. Draw with wax. Discover batik.
